Accessibility statement
Every learner reads.
Accessibility is a founding feature of Librola, not something bolted on afterward. A reading platform that some kids can't read isn't finished — so we built the reader for the student with a screen reader or a Braille display in the same breath as everyone else.
Our commitment
A target and a practice, not a badge.
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the site and the Librola Reader. That is a target and a statement of practice — not a certification. We have not been audited by a third party, and we won't claim a badge we haven't earned. What we can do is tell you plainly what works today, what we are still fixing, and exactly whom to write when something is in your way.
Current state
What works today
- The Librola Reader works with screen readers and refreshable Braille displays — reading is the product, so this came first.
- Picture mode shows the illustrated page for readers who need or prefer it.
- Recorded narration plays sentence by sentence, with adjustable speed, at a learner's pace.
- The site and reader are keyboard-navigable: a skip link on every page, visible focus, and a logical focus order.
- Fonts are self-hosted and pages load no trackers, ad scripts, or third-party CDNs — nothing follows your students around.
- We collect no student personal information. The teacher owns the account; a class joins with a short code.
Known gaps
What we are still fixing
Some of the games bundled with lessons predate the platform, and we are still auditing them against the same WCAG 2.1 AA target — keyboard access and screen-reader support in particular. Where a game falls short, we will repair it or retire it; the reading, circling, and retelling phases of a lesson do not depend on it. This section will shrink as the audit progresses, and we would rather show you an honest list than a spotless one.
Feedback
Tell us what's in your way.
If a key doesn't reach a control, a label your screen reader skips, or a game won't play fairly for one of your students, write to the founder directly: ortonp@gmail.com. Librola is small on purpose — the person who reads your message is the person who builds the platform.
This statement reflects the state of Librola in August 2026. We will update it as the audit progresses.
